President Jonathan officially launches 64-page e-passport

President Jonathan today officially launched and obtained the new 64-page e-passport. According to presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati; "The new 64-pg e-passport helps frequent travelers, it's gender friendly, forestalls identity theft, cheaper for the aged and low income earners, conforms with international best practices." "Cost of new e-passport for below 18yrs and 60 years and above is N8,750; change of name as a result of marriage or divorce is also N8,750 "The existing e-passport is 32pp; new one is 64pp but it is strictly for frequent travelers. Please note, it does not invalidate the 32 pp"

Another female suicide bomber attacks Kano Polythenic

Another female suicide bomber blew herself up at the administration building of Kano State Polytechnic this afternoon July 30th around 2.45 as students were checking their results in the school.This is coming after 3 different incident in 2 weeks Kano State Police Command confirmed the blast, saying a female teenager blew herself up targeting prospective corps members who went to school to check their NYSC posting. They said at least two students died in the blast while 7 others were seriously injured and were taken to the hospital. I know that any thing a man does a woman can do better, but this entire menace has to stop.

Guinea concert stampede 'kills 34'

  At least 34 people have reportedly died in a stampede in Guinea, during a concert marking the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.   The president's office declared a week of national mourning for what it called a "tragic drama" at the concert by the Guinean rap group Instinct Killers. Dozens of people were injured, said police sources quoted by AFP. The concert took place on Tuesday evening on a beach in Ratoma, a northern suburb of the capital Conakry. A medical source at Donka hospital in the capital told Reuters that the number of injured continued to rise. "There are currently 34 bodies in the morgue. The list of injured keeps growing. The oldest among them can't be more than 20. There are young girls among them," he added. The authorities were "shocked by the tragic drama caused by mass movements at a cultural event," said a statement from the president's office. The head of a government body

Landslides trap 150 people or more in western India

Landslides caused by heavy monsoon rains may have trapped 150 people or more in a village in western India, a senior official said Wednesday. At least eight bodies had been recovered Wednesday as the search continued. Two survivors were pulled out with injuries, said Suresh Jadhav, a district administrator in Maharashtra state. "There are reports that up to 30 to 40 houses have been affected," Jadhav said. About 50 ambulances and 200 volunteers were sent to the scene to help with the rescue effort, he said. The landslides were reported around midnight in Malin, a village in Maharashtra's Pune district, near Mumbai.

Sudanese woman, Meriam Ibrahim, who flew into Italy this morning in company of her husband Daniel Wani and their two children Martin and Maya, met with Pope Francis at Casa Santa Marta th inside the Vatican. According to the head of the Vatican Press Office, Father Federico Lombardi, the meeting took place in a 'very serene & affectionate' environment, and Pope Francis thanked Meriam for her 'courageous witness to perseverance in the Faith.' NFF Executive Committee Dismisses President, Aminu Maigari

The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation have dismissed the president of the Federation, Aminu Maigari. Maigari was dismissed on grounds of financial misappropriation, misapplication and maladministration. The 1st Vice President, Mike Umeh, takes over as Acting President till the NFF Executive Committee election of August 26, 2014. This comes barely a week after world football governing body, FIFA, lifted the ban it placed on Nigerian Football on grounds of Government interference. A Plateau court had on July 2, sacked Mr Maigari after hearing a suit filed by Mrs Ebiakpo Rumson Baribote, the Chairman of Nembe City FC, who requested the court to restrain Aminu Maigari and all the committee and congress of the Nigeria Football Federation from managing the affairs of football matters in Nigeria. Explosion Rocks Kano Motor Park

A high calibre improvised device was today, Thursday July 24 detonated inside the New road motor park located at Sabon Gari, Kano State, leaving 5 people dead. However,  the police authorities claim that only 1 body was found at the scene. The motor park, located in a predominantly Christian area, is also reported to have been rocked by at least four explosions previously. The blasts occurred on Igbo Road, Enugu Road and New Road, opposite Ado Bayero Square. The latest attack is coming barely a year after a bomb blast killed no fewer than 20 people in the same area, at a drinking joint. Boko Haram had claimed responsibility for coordinated suicide blasts at a bus park in Sabon Gari in March 2014 that killed about 22 people. Ethiopia Detains 45 Nigerians For Alleged Drug Trafficking – Official

 Pursuit of wealth....... No fewer than 45 Nigerian nationals are being detained by the Ethiopian authorities for alleged drugs trafficking and related offences, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. A top official of the Embassy of Nigeria in Addis Ababa, who preferred not be mentioned, told NAN that the suspected traffickers, including seven ladies, were arrested at the Addis Ababa International Airport within a period of five months. The suspects are being detained in various detention facilities within the city while awaiting trial in accordance with international laws on trafficking of drugs and other related offenses. The embassy official said the suspected traffickers were on transit through the Addis Ababa Airport from countries in South America being points of origin.
